Reviewing and logging

How the main Kronolog window works: browse screenshots, choose a project and task, then Confirm or Discard.

Reviewing and logging happen in the main Kronolog window. Each screenshot is one chunk of time: you look at what was on screen, assign a project and task, then Confirm to log it or Discard to skip it.

The main window

When screenshots are waiting, you will see:

  • A progress bar and count of how many screens you have reported in this session
  • The current screenshot, with its date and time (click the date/time to jump to another moment)
  • Navigation controls to move between screenshots (arrow keys work too)
  • A Project selector (projects come from Settings)
  • A task field (Describe the task)
  • Confirm to log the screenshot, or Discard to remove it without logging

Confirm stays disabled until both project and task are filled in. After you Confirm, the same project and task stay selected for the next screenshot so consecutive work is faster to label. By default, Confirm and Discard delete the screenshot file; turn on Back up screenshots in Settings if you want those files kept under ~/Kronolog/screenshots/backup instead. Use Reports when you want totals or exports; use Settings to manage projects and the capture schedule.

How minutes are counted

You do not type minutes per screenshot. Each Confirm logs the interval from your screenshot schedule—for example, every 10 minutes means each confirmed screenshot adds 10 minutes to that project and task. See Scheduling screenshots for how that interval is set.

Tips for labeling

  • Prefer task wording that you would put on an invoice; think in terms of both "what" and "why", and keep it concrete (“Homepage wireframes for phase 1 design” beats “design steps”).
  • Discard personal, idle, or non-billable frames instead of forcing them into a project.
  • If you are unsure what a frame was for, use the date/time jump or step nearby screenshots for context before you Confirm.
